Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2006, Volume 1, Issue 4,   Pages 472-474 doi: 10.1007/s11465-006-0062-7

Abstract: In this paper, the technical method of cooling quench medium with air-cooler in the process of bearing quenching is introduced. The exhausted hot air is directly used to dry bearing balls. It is a novel approach for full utilization of heat energy during heat treatment, which increased 30 % of the heat efficiency when compared with normal air-cooler methods that directly put exhaust air into atmosphere.

Frontiers of Environmental Science & Engineering 2014, Volume 8, Issue 4,   Pages 496-502 doi: 10.1007/s11783-013-0578-0

Abstract: The effective disposal of redundant tea waste is crucial to environmental protection and comprehensive utilization of trash resources. In this work, the removal of methyl orange (MO) from aqueous solution using spent tea leaves as the sorbent was investigated in a batch experiment. First, the effects of various parameters such as temperature, adsorption time, dose of spent tea leaves, and initial concentration of MO were investigated. Then, the response surface methodology (RSM), based on Box–Behnken design, was employed to obtain the optimum adsorption conditions. The optimal conditions could be obtained at an initial concentration of MO of 9.75 mg·L , temperature of 35.3°C, contact time of 63.8 min, and an adsorbent dosage 3.90 g·L . Under the optimized conditions, the maximal removal of MO was 58.2%. The results indicate that spent tea leaves could be used as an effective and economical adsorbent in the removal of MO from aqueous solution.

Homoharringtonine is a safe and effective substitute for anthracyclines in children younger than 2 years old with acute myeloid leukemia

Xiaoxiao Chen, Yanjing Tang, Jing Chen, Ru Chen, Longjun Gu, Huiliang Xue, Ci Pan, Jingyan Tang, Shuhong

Frontiers of Medicine 2019, Volume 13, Issue 3,   Pages 378-387 doi: 10.1007/s11684-018-0658-4

Abstract: Homoharringtonine (HHT), a plant alkaloid from , exhibits a unique anticancer mechanism and has been widely used in China to treat patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) since the 1970s. Trial SCMC-AML-2009 presented herein was a randomized clinical study designed based on our previous findings that pediatric AML patients younger than two years old may benefit from HHT-containing chemotherapy regimens. Patients randomized to arm A were treated with a standard chemotherapy regimen comprising mainly of anthracyclines and cytarabine (Ara-C), whereas patients in arm B were treated with HHT-containing regimens in which anthracyclines in all but the initial induction therapy were replaced by HHT. From February 2009 to November 2015, 59 patients less than 2 years old with AML (other than acute promyelocytic leukemia) were recruited. A total of 42 patients achieved a morphologic complete remission (CR) after the first course, with similar rates in both arms (70.6% vs.72.0%). At the end of the follow-up period, 40 patients remained in CR and 5 patients underwent hematopoietic stem cell transplantation in CR, which could not be considered as events but censors. The 5-year event-free survival (EFS) was 60.2%±9.6% for arm A and 88.0%±6.5% for arm B ( =0.024). Patients in arm B experienced shorter durations of leukopenia, neutropenia, and thrombocytopenia and had a lower risk of infection during consolidation chemotherapy with high-dosage Ara-C. Consequently, the homoharringtonine-based regimen achieved excellent EFS and alleviated hematologic toxicity for children aged younger than 2 years with AML compared with the anthracycline-based regimen.
